Proud of its traditions, the village continues to cultivate that of the santon through, in particular, its annual santon fair and the santon maker.
Champtercier is the birthplace of Pierre Gassendi, a great man of science and contemporary of Descartes.
15 minutes from the center of Digne les Bains, Champtercier offers a clear view of the surrounding mountains.

A Provençal village.

A large square bell tower with a slate roof, a few stepped alleys and a covered passage connecting simple plastered houses with blue or green shutters, a fountain and its wash house, one or two vegetable gardens where fig trees grow, a pile of wood which waits for winter...Champtercier has no other pretensions than to offer you its light air, its generous nature.

Pierre Gassendi.

Champtercier is the birthplace of Pierre Gassendi (1592-1655), a great man of science and contemporary of Descartes, he was a historian, physicist, philosopher, theologian, astronomer and naturalist. He often observed the moon of his native village.
