Archail is one of the smallest and least populated municipalities in Pays Dignois, with less than 10 inhabitants. It is established on the Terres Noirs (the color of the rocks, the “Robins”), at the foot of the Couard peak (from the Provençal “crow”).

The Black Lands, these landscapes of dark dunes offer a completely lunar spectacle! Born under the sea in the Jurassic, they result from the deposition of quantities of clay-limestone sediments called marls. The black color of these rocks is due to the presence of pyrite (iron sulfide).
