Refuge d'Art "Sentinelle de la Vallée du Bès"

A singular experience that of Andy Goldsworthy, artist
internationally recognized, who imagines a project combining contemporary art
and safeguarding rural heritage in the protected territory of the Haute-Provence Geopark, around Digne les Bains.
“I liked the feeling that one experiences in this site of being protected, and which
contrasts with the fear that one can feel, even today, in
the crossing of the Clues overhung by sheer cliffs, when the road passes
under tons of mountain. Because of this contrast, the cairn appears as a guardian and protector of the Clue, as a memorial to those who have been here before and a witness for those who will come in the future.“
Andy Goldsworthy

From Digne les Bains:
Follow the signs “Musée-Promenade“ (where you can see a set of
works by Andy Goldsworthy including 5 Water Cairns on the Hill
amount to the headquarters of the Geological Reserve) and continue on the D900a in
towards the village of Barles. Go through the Peruré clue (tunnel), continue for 2 km to a wooded area. Park on the right just before a bridge over the Bès (Geological Reserve sign). Go up the road for about 500m, the Sentinel is at the entrance to the Barles clue in a recess on the left.
About 40 minutes.
