Refuge d'Art "Le Vieil Esclangon"

Unique experience than that of Andy Goldsworthy, internationally recognized artist, who imagines a project combining contemporary art and safeguarding rural heritage on the protected territory of the Geopark of Haute-Provence, around Digne les Bains.
“When you go up towards the house, on a winding path, you have the color red in your eyes and the color red on your feet. Then you arrive at the house and you look at this wall with this red and winding line. I think it will be a great echo to the hike.”
Andy Goldsworthy

From Digne les Bains follow the signs for “Musée-Promenade” (where you can see a collection of works by Andy Goldsworthy and in particular 5 water cairns on the hill leading up to the headquarters of the Geological Reserve) and continue on the D900a towards the village of Barles for about 15km. Park in the car park on the left just before the Clue du Péroué (before the tunnel). About 30 minutes.

Take the path that starts opposite the car park (signposted Vieil Esclangon – yellow markings) to the plateau. The refuge is then right in front of you. About 45 minutes.

To discover the Refuge d'art – Vieil Esclangon, reservations are required at the Gassendi museum on 04 92 31 45 29. To enter one of the three Refuges d'Art where you can spend the night, reserve the key at the Gassendi museum after paying the museum entrance fee, which is 7,5 euros and gives access to the monumental work river of earth by Andy Goldsworthy and all the rooms presenting the Art in the Mountains collection.
