Unique experience than that of Andy Goldsworthy, internationally recognized artist, who imagines a project combining contemporary art and safeguarding rural heritage on the protected territory of the Geopark of Haute-Provence, around Digne les Bains.
“The ground floor has few windows and a low ceiling. The darkness will be pierced by intense rays of light. This is the ideal atmosphere for building white stone arches: they will appear like architectural ghosts and their number must be sufficient to communicate to the room an impression of movement and circulation.
The stone will be the same as the Sentinels. White, alive, in the light and space of the building. I like the idea of the Sentinels being lookouts for the arches.
Andy Goldsworthy
From Digne les Bains:
Take the D900 towards La Javie and Barcelonnette. After about 5 km, turn right onto the D22 to the village of Draix (about 5 km more). About 20 minutes
Continue on foot on the track that descends to the north-west (yellow markings) to the bridge over the Bouinenc. Continue north on a path that rises in the black marl (about 1,5 km) then take a path on the left that rises steeply in the forest for about 500 m. The farm is on the left of the path, on the hillside, hidden by the trees. About 45 minutes.
To discover the Art Refuge – Belon Farm, reservation required at the Gassendi Museum on 04 92 31 45 29. To enter one of the three Art Refuges where you can spend the night, reserve the key at the Gassendi Museum after paying the museum entrance fee, which is 7,5 euros. Then collect the key against an identity document which gives access to the monumental work river of earth by Andy Goldsworthy and all the rooms presenting the Art in the Mountains collection.
