The Musée-Promenade is the interpretation center of the Haute-Provence Geopark. Visitors stroll through a large shaded park where paths and streams intersect and where waterfalls and contemporary works of art offer an enchanting setting.
Exhibition rooms offer an immersion in the exceptional landscapes and heritage riches of the territory: rich geological history (numerous marine fossils), remarkable biodiversity (The world of butterflies, the butterfly garden) ...
Picnic tables, toilets at the entrance to the park and at the Museum.
Go and meet the butterflies, wander along the paths dotted with works of contemporary art, come and learn about the geological history of the region or about the UNESCO Global Geoparks.
Internationally renowned artists have drawn their inspiration from it, such as Andy Goldsworthy, Joan Fontcuberta, Sylvie Bussières and Agathe Larpent. A space for contemplation and creation, overlooking Digne from the top of its tuff peak, it immerses the visitor in a hushed universe that gently leads to the heart of the Earth's memory...
In the museum's exhibition rooms, the last 300 million years of Earth's history unfold before your eyes... In distant times, the Alpine ocean covered the region. Stone fossils such as Ammonites and Ichthyosaurs illustrate this memory. A film tells the story of the region's landscapes and their evolution, the great upheavals that the Earth has experienced. It allows everyone to become aware of the extraordinary wealth of this territory.
The Kamaïshi Garden. Inspired by Japan, this garden was designed as a tribute to the twinning of the towns of Digne and Kamaïshi around the theme of "Man and his seasons". The different stages of a man's life are effectively represented as the flowers bloom, along the path. A Japanese-style gate (Torii) marks each entrance and invites visitors to enter the garden. A bridge, a pond, paths or benches, sought-after vegetation, lanterns and pagodas live in harmony in this timeless space.
The butterfly garden. The meeting of the Mediterranean and Alpine climates promotes remarkable biodiversity. In this garden specially designed to accommodate the favorite – or exclusive – plants of butterflies or their caterpillars, more than 139 species of butterflies evolve freely and can be observed from spring to autumn. A guided tour is offered at 11 am, from Monday to Friday by a passionate guide (included in the price of the entrance ticket).
