Climb of the “Grandes Côtes” and passage over the crest

In the middle of century-old trees, we give the first pedal strokes as a warm-up. Welcome to the Grandes Côtes mountain bike circuit. Very quickly, the single tracks arrive, piloting will be the key word of this hike. The space is reduced but the rolling passage, the sensations of the terrain are felt with the skids on this ground covered with leaves. We are in the undergrowth with a surprising smell of pine and oak. The restful silence is disturbed by the noise of our wheels on the creaking ground. The ascent of the Grandes Côtes overheats all our muscles, it's steep and technical: there are rocks with hairpins and small slopes to overcome. This effort is quickly forgotten when all of a sudden the view clears as you leave the woods.

The Amarinnes ridge

We are at the foot of the impressive Montagne de Lure. Near the Amarinnes crest, the spectacle is grandiose, we dominate the entire Val de Durance. The wind caresses our faces, in the distance a maze of steps, a few turns then a single track on the cliffside. The terrain is slippery but still grippy, concentration is at max!!! Steep descent, turns, skids, piloting and what a surprise at the end!

In the heart of Les Bruyères and enduro MTB passage of the Toboggans

We dive into the heart of the Bruyères forest massif, the atmosphere is special on this carpet of orange leaves. Tree silhouettes emerge between light and shadow and silence is king. The course is very playful: it is impossible to relax our vigilance. We zigzag between leaves and tricky roots. The confidence is there and the speed too, the descents are steep and the turns short, we are ready to skid to pass these hairpins by sliding with our rear wheel. The brakes heat up and so do our muscles.

We link pontoons, footbridges, bumps and banked turns. We have the impression of being on board a rollercoaster, we have to hold on! The jolts put our arms to the test, it's piloting and pure enduro mountain biking. A pride to have passed this great enduro part of the Toboggans.

Enduro passage in Saint-Jean

Direction a very pretty single-track path, along the river sparkling in the sun. The route is refreshing with this light breeze at the water's edge. The birds sing. We follow the footbridges. The route requires responsiveness and liveliness, pure joy!

The last difficulty takes us near the summit of Saint-Jean, this rocky promontory which dominates the town of Château-Arnoux. The climb is physical, the muscles are starting to tire but what a joy to be able to finish in apotheosis with a magnificent enduro descent in the middle of the pines. It's an extraordinary journey that puts our emotions to the test.
