Exhibition: Rose is life

Rose c'est la vie exhibition poster ©

The visual artist Frédérique Nalbandian has been exploring the fragility of things for more than 20 years, using plaster and pastel in her work, combining in her compositions the fragility of Marseille soap and the eternity of marble.

Description

A reader of Alexandra David-Neel, she has composed a set of works for the museum using the rose both as material and as subject. Its proposal unfolds over the entire visitor journey.

Rose, c'est la vie, a nod to the iconic work of Marcel Duchamp, is also the pretext for an exploration of this theme both in contemporary art with the abundant work of some thirty artists and their prints, the enthusiasm for this flower through the collection of the Gassendi Museum, decorative art, jewelery and popular culture.

A cabinet, made up of 12 display cases, makes it possible to address ecological issues and the ambiguity of the image of the rose.

The exhibition benefits from loans from MAC VAL, the Calvet Foundation - Musuém Requien and Calvet Museum, the Departmental Museum-Muséum of the Hautes-Alpes, the Salagon Museum, the International Museum of Perfumery, the Center du Livre d'Artistes of Saint-Yrieix-la-Perche, the Earthenware Museum of Moustiers, the Natural History Museum of Aix-en-Provence and the Museum of Fine Arts of Marseille.

Artists present: Frédérique Nalbandian, Jérôme Galvin and Marie-Odile Savigny.

The Gassendi Museum also thanks Pépinières et Roseraies Georges Delbard, Natacha Pugnet and the Ambulo team for their participation in the exhibition.
