Description

Excavations carried out in 1960-1961 on the eve of the flooding under the waters of Lake L'Escale led to the discovery of the largest series of antique bronzes (statuettes and busts) in Haute-Provence. In Gallo-Roman times, when the Durance was relatively navigable, L'Escale was an important river port. The site of Bourguet, located 1 km north of the village was at that time a major residential center.
