Promenade Museum
The Musée-Promenade is the interpretation center of the UNESCO Geopark of Haute-Provence. Visitors stroll through a large shaded park where paths and streams intersect and where waterfalls and contemporary works of art create an enchanting setting.

Description

Possibility of picnicking, open toilets.

Set off to meet the butterflies, simply take a stroll or come and learn about the geological history of the region or the global network of UNESCO Geoparks.

Internationally renowned artists have drawn their inspiration from it, such as Andy Goldsworthy, Joan Fontcuberta, Sylvie Bussières, Agathe Larpent. Space for wandering, creation, dominating Digne from the top of its tuff peak, it immerses the visitor in a cozy universe which leads gently to the heart of the memory of the Earth...
In the exhibition halls of the museum, the last 300 million years of the Earth's history pass before our eyes...

In ancient times, the Alpine Ocean covered the region. Tropical marine aquariums illustrate this memory by reviving colorful living species and stone fossils side by side, of which Ammonites and Ichthyosaurs are the kings. A film tells the story of the landscapes of the region and their evolution, the great upheavals that the Earth has known. It allows everyone to become aware of the extraordinary richness of this territory.

Japanese garden
To discover in the park of the Museum-Promenade: the Japanese garden of Kamaïshi. Of Japanese inspiration, this garden was designed in homage to the twinning of the towns of Digne and Kamaïshi around the theme of “Man and his seasons”. The different stages of a man's life are actually represented there as the flowers bloom, along the path. A Japanese-style door materializes each entrance and invites visitors to enter the garden. A bridge, a pond, paths or benches, sophisticated vegetation, lanterns and pagodas live in harmony in this timeless space accessible to all (access ramp for people with reduced mobility).

The Butterfly Trail
Between the waterfalls and the restanques arranged especially to accommodate the favorite - or exclusive - plants of the butterflies or their caterpillars, in this particular environment at the limit of the Mediterranean and Alpine climate, more than 139 species of day butterflies evolve freely and can be observed from spring to autumn.
