2 days on horseback, for owner riders, on the equestrian route of the Route Napoléon (GR406) between Digne-les-Bains and Château-Arnoux, with an additional variant on the third day to end the stay at the citadel of Sisteron!

Description

The Great Equestrian Route of the Route Napoléon (GR406) is 350km of marked paths between Grasse and Vizille, Napoleon covered it with his troops in 8 days in 1815.

Day 1: Digne-les-Bains - Mallemoisson - Mirabeau
Distance: 14 km - Positive elevation: 230 m // Negative elevation: 150 m
Departing from Digne, you will meander through the Bléone valley on the Route Napoléon. The route labeled Grand Equestrian Route offers several ascents and descents, in particular the one leading you to the superb viewpoint of Gaubert, which then descends on the other side where you will cross a footbridge at the foot of the hill. New ascent to the village of Mallemoisson, then descent into the plain where you will cross the Duyes river. You will then cross the hamlet of Lutins to arrive at the castle of Fontenelle and the village of Mirabeau where the cottage and the paddock for the horses are located (100m away).

Day 2: Mirabeau - Volonne - Château-Arnoux
Distance: 20 km - Positive elevation: 250 m // Negative elevation: 430 m
This stage offers you very varied landscapes, starting with a long track rising to a superb point of view of the penitents. You will then descend via a ridge path towards Malijai, where a track will take you to the center of the village. You will find the Château du village and its park, where Napoleon slept on March 4, 1815. The end of the route winds along the Durance in the heart of the ornithological reserve. This reedbed is home to more than 160 species of birds!

Additional day possible to extend the equestrian route to the citadel of Sisteron (+75€ per person for full board in an equestrian gite).
